Upper Primary

Every year Bookpoint Springs Academy will bring together grade four who have made the journey from our Lower Primary and students who come from other schools. They will be introduced to a group of teachers and administrators chosen because of their commitments to upper level.

The school will provide a challenging program that will engage students who are growing through a variety of developmental and emotional stages, and who change from day to day as they experiment with who they are becoming. The intensity of their passion for learning is at a peak, and the program must keep pace with that energy, while providing support, encouragement, and affirmation.

Upper Primary Learning Areas includes English Language, Kiswahili, Agriculture, Mathematics, Religious Education, Art and Craft, Home Science, Physical and Health Education, Science and Technology, Social Studies and Music

During this period of transitions between childhood and young adulthood, Bookpoint Springs will provide the opportunity for students to begin making choices about the areas they wish to explore, and more opportunities for them to work at their own pace.

We will strive to include traditions and activities that are appropriate to student’s age. These will include competitions between multi-age groups of students, poetry, talent shows, art exhibits and mathematical contests.

The young adolescents of this level vary greatly in their experiences, interests and abilities. Teachers will work to develop skills in higher-level thinking, reading, writing, speaking and listening, as well as personal organization and time management.

Children in the middle level are in the process of experimenting with who they are and who they want to be and that makes them an exciting group to work with, and also a challenge to guide and support.

They will need an increasing amount of both independence and responsibility. Expectations for conduct and behavior will be made clear, and we will work to create an environment where students can feel safe and accepted as they explore and develop.

Grade IV

“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.”
